Review Mediawiki Platform

Media wiki is a great platform for documentation and build knowledge base. I used it before and till now, so far so good.

Too Much Work?

I don't know if I would really use this. It seems like rather a laborious process to go through to set up. I don't think this is really a good option.

Excelent Collaborate Documantation Solution

This is excellent solution for collaborate knowledge management.

Wikipedia is excellent use-case example for this software. And main benefit from such solution is involvement of independent contributor to work on documentation, information and other knowledges.

Tough To Configure And Use

With the advent of Google Sites, one really has to question the use of wiki software like Mediawiki, which is significantly cumbersome to set up and maintain. That being said, it is extremely powerful as a tool. However, the faint-hearted should tread carefully! There are several nuances to getting this set up properly, mainly from an app perspective. Setting up user permissions and then populating the site is unnecessarily cumbersome.

BitNami Offers Easy Open Source

But actually deploying those applications can be a huge, daunting nuisance. The WordPress installation instructions, for example, may brag of taking only five minutes - but that presumes you are already running MySQL and PHP and a web server and are comfortable configuring them.
