Adium Simply Works

Adium  by an anonymous user on March 4th 2008 at 06:22 AM

Adium allows me to keep in contact with friends and family members around the world on different IM services. It's very easy on the eyes, highly customisable and works like a dream on my MacBook running Leopard 10.5.2.

I use Miranda ( on Windows. Miranda is also nice, you can customise it and it connects to a large variety of different IM services.

Great Open Source Mac Apps

You might not expect it from Mac OS X, given its complicated relationship to open source, but there is a flourishing open source community that solely supports the platform. These apps are different from larger, cross-platform open source projects like Firefox, and were built to be Mac apps. Here’s five examples of great software from the open source community for the Mac.

OStatic Buffer Overflow...

Firefox 3.1 Beta 3 now available. It has an improved Private Browsing Mode, the new TraceMonkey JavaScript engine, and more. Get it here.

Mozilla contemplates a future without Google. Could it get more millions from another search partner than it currently gets from Google?

T-Mobile G1 fire sale. Get an Android phone for under $80.

Adium gets its Twitter on in version 1.4. The great open source, multiprotocol Mac instant-messaging app is tackling solid Twitter functionality.

6 ways to connect Linux to the outside world that are not wireless, Bluetooth, or Ethernet. It can be done.

The ABC's of PHP. How to get started with it.

Adium 1.3 Provides Facebook Chat, Many Bug Fixes

Adium, an open-source instant-messaging client for OS X, has released its latest version (1.3). Adium, like the Pidgin IM client, makes it possible to use a single IM program, rather than run multiple clients simultaneously for AIM, MSN, Yahoo, and several other networks. Adium's latest release includes support for the Facebook IM client, providing desktop access to this otherwise Web-only communications channel.

Is adium stable under leopard?

Not able to use adium with leopard spaces. Disappears intermittently.

IChat v/s Adium?

Any pressing reason to move over? I like iSight and don't really have too many contacts on the other IM services (MSN, Yahoo, etc.)

Also, I haven't seen anything about importing your Skype contacts over to Adium. Is Skype supported on Adium now? That would be critical since most of my IM interaction happens over skype now...
